Después de la creación del primer radio teléfono por Martín Coper, y el posterior lanzamiento del invento al mercado, este mismo se saturo de teléfonos móviles que solamente servían para realizar y recibir llamadas, son por estas razones que la empresas de telefonía móvil decidieron realizar estudios de mercado para identificar gustos y preferencias de las personas e inclusive las demandas de otras herramientas al margen de recibir y realizar llamadas. Muchas empresas notaron que el tono de llamada, es decir, el tono que identifica una llamada entrante era demasiado antiguo, de mal gusto y obsoleto. Tal estudio demostró que muchas personas deseaban tener sonidos distintos por la común confusión de sonidos en el momento de las llamadas a los teléfonos móviles.

De tal manera que muchas empresas se enfocaron en el desarrollo de sonidos esto fueron monofónicos, polifónicos y ahora se puede grabar cualquier tipo de música desde MP3, CD, etc. (tonos reales) hasta aquellos que se bajan por Internet. Podemos mencionar que una nueva innovación es el SINGTONE que en resumidas palabras es una mezcla de la voz del usuario en una pista de karaoke.

Se puede mencionar otra gran ventaja de los tonos del teléfono móvil es la identificación de cada llamada entrante. Es decir, cada vez que se reciba una llamada de un numero especifico se puede otorgar a este numero un tono de llamadas de esta manera se identifica quien llama y así poder decidir recibir la llamada o no hacerlo. Como ya se había comentado en un principio los tonos de llamadas pueden ser incluso música clásica como de Mozart, pasando por los clásicos como el tema: “Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go.” Hasta la música moderna como del cantante Fifty-Cent (musica para celular).

Nextel got focus on the young ladies from United States who like going out with friends, surfing and snowboarding for many hours a day, and in order to be in touch with other people, or not to talk with someone in particular, they choose a variety of ring tones per each call incoming. These young ladies had more than 500 ring tones on their cell phones and because of it, they can chose an specific ring tone for their purpose, as an example they had a classic music, as a tone, called: ‘Girls Just Wanna Have Fun’. They use this ring tone to identify the calls incoming from their friends and Fifty-cents as a modern ring tone to identify a specific or particular caller.

This is a little example of how a personalization of tones on a cell phone can be adjusted for the satisfaction of users. Because of the studies made by the enterprises, they gain benefits due to sells of products that are interesting for the market.
